WORK EXPERIENCE DLA, India Buildings, Water Street, Liverpool, L2 0NH I was employed as a DP Technician in the DP Department and joined on 26 January 2004. I was involved in typing and amending all types of legal documents associated with many aspects of the law including real estate, litigation and marine law. I have had in depth training on more advanced aspects of Word, Excel, Visio, Microsoft Publisher and other in‑house packages. The documents were typed from both copy and audio and the office operated a quick amend service over the telephone for small urgent amendments. In addition, I also copied files to CD, produced PDF files and used a digital scanner to produce OCR documents. I have now left DLA. The reason for leaving was to start up The Typing Service. Luton Borough Council, Town Hall, Luton, LU1 2BQ I was employed as a Document Creation Assistant within the Legal Services Division and joined the Council in September 1994. My main duties include audio and copy typing of confidential documents and correspondence for all departments of the Council as well as preparing, scanning and indexing documents electronically. Such documents have included letters, memoranda, reports, file notes, minutes, forms (including designing the form), flowcharts and legal documents. I also transcribe PACE interview tapes for the Licensing Unit, Fraud Unit and Trading Standards Divisions as well as radio interview for Marketing and PR. More recently I have been involved in administration duties within the Legal Admin Unit including filing, accurately recording the file's insertion and retrieval into the central filing system, co-ordinating book releases, inserting data onto Microsoft Access databases, photocopying, collating information and deed card indexing. From July 1998 to January 2002 I was acting Deputy Supervisor for the team which afforded remuneration of an extra £150.00 per month. This role was taken away due to reorganisation within the Department and there no longer being a need for a Deputy and I reverted to my substantive post. I left on 21 September 2003 as I moved away from the area. Exterior Profiles, 93 Wellington Street, Luton, LU1 5AF I was employed as a Typist/Secretary within the administration department, reporting to the managing director's secretary. Much of the work was copy typing for all other members of staff, including letters, tenders, orders, memoranda, schedules and other documents using Locoscript. The administration department shared reception and switchboard duties together with provision of refreshments for visitors. The majority of typing was urgent and required to be faxed to construction sites and therefore speed and accuracy were of the utmost importance. There was a large amount of liaison with the construction sites, particularly relaying messages which were queries or responses requiring immediate action. I was employed from August 1992 until March 1993 and left due to redundancy. BECENTA, The Business Centre, Kimpton Road, Luton, LU2 0LB I was employed as an Administrative Assistant reporting to the Senior Administrator. I provided a reception and switchboard service to clients and enquiries ensuring that at all times I exercised excellent customer care. I booked counselling appointments and prepared all documentation for counsellors and, once the session was over, input the data onto the database. Using information placed on the system I prepared and produced statistical reports. After teaching myself the Q&A database I completely redesigned the existing database to more accurately meet the requirements of the organisation. I was involved in preparation of ethnic monitoring questionnaires. Many clients were of ethnic groups and some understood little or no English and therefore when dealing with those people it was necessary to handle them with tact and patience to be able to assist them with advice. Using Wordstar I undertook audio and copy typing of correspondence, minutes, reports and other documents for other members of staff. I was employed from November 1991 until August 1992 and left due to redundancy. Ernst & Young, Capability Green, Luton, LU1 3LU I was employed as Secretary to the Corporate Advisory Services Department reporting to three managers. I undertook word processing of highly confidential correspondence, accounts, reports and fee notes, all to strict deadlines, using Wordperfect version 4.2. On appointment I was sent to the company's head office to attend training courses in Wordperfect and Secretarial Skills. Within the department I initiated the filing system and took telephone messages. There was a great deal of telephone contact abroad and when the managers were abroad I took telephone dictation before sending completed documents through the fax. whilst employed I took the opportunity of learning Supercalc spreadsheets and upgraded my Wordperfect training to version 5.0. I was employed from August 1988 to September 1989 and left because the company was moving and I was unable to get there without my own transport. Commercial Union, Chapel Street, Luton, LU1 2SE I was employed as a typist in the typing pool, undertaking audio and copy typing of claims, correspondence, policies, endorsements, burglary and fire reports and financial data using an electric typewriter and internal word processing package. The department served around 160 staff. I was employed from March 1986 to August 1988 and left to further career as a secretary. During breaks in employment I have always undertaken temporary assignments for local employment agencies covering reception, switchboard, typing, audio, spreadsheets, graphics, financial calculations, data input and beer testing. I have worked for such companies as Whitbread, Beefeater, Laporte, Taylors, Taylor Walton, Royal Bank of Scotland, Plumb Center and the Local Government Management Board.
