Originally from Dunstable in Bedfordshire.  I moved to Liverpool in October 2003.  I took the decision to take 6 months away from work to find my feet and learn a little about my new home but I was offered a position in a prestigious legal firm just 3 months into my sabbatical.  It was while working for DLA LLP that I slowly realised I missed the variety that temping used to allow me and I was in a position to do something about it.  Thus, the Typing Service was born.

Training

I left school in 1981 with one O-level and 4 CSEs.  I immediately began evening classes at my local college where over the next few years I gained 2 O-levels, 1 GCSE, Pitman Bookeeping and RSA I, II and III in typing.  During my professional life I have worked as a typist, secretary and administrator.  I have had secretarial training and have an excellent working knowledge of all the software packages which are part of the Office suite, Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Publisher, as well as Visio.  I have been using Dreamweaver web authoring software for more than two years and used it to create both this and my card making website..  My typing speeds are over 90wpm for copy typing and in excess of 80wpm for audio transcription.  I also have a data input speed of around 12,000-14,000 characters per hour depending on whether it is numeric or alpha input.   My education is continuing and I am currently studing with the Open University.

Work Experience

I have worked as a secretary and administrator for more than 25 years.  I began my working life in 1981 as a YOP trainee for a company who manufactured parts for Vauxhall Motors.  I then moved in 1986 into the insurance sector where I stayed for more than two years before moving into the accountancy field.  After several years of temping I moved into the legal profession in the early 1990s before taking up a permanent position in the Legal Services Division of the local Council in September 1994.  The Text Processing Section undertook typing for all departments as well as Councillors and the local MPs.  I left in September 2003, after 9 years service, to move to Liverpool.  I left DLA LLP after 8 months and began the Typing Service on 1 October 2004.
